My Kid Needs Help! What Do I Do?

MHR recently received additional state funding for the continuation of kids’ Mobile Urgent Treatment Team (MUTT).

Stress3The team serves kids ages 8-24 in crisis that present a risk to  themselves, their families, or others due to mental illness and/or developmental disabilities. If your kid is in crisis, MUTT can help you. Call Pathways 211 or 740-345-HELP and ask for help from MUTT – Kids’ Mobile Crisis Team.

The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities and the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services recently awarded $178,960 to a local collaborative partnership in Licking and Knox Counties to continue to address critical issues faced by families with youth in crisis.

Specifically families with youth aged 8-24 who present a risk to themselves, their families, or others due to mental illness and/or developmental disabilities. Many of these youth are not currently connected with services.

The grant will fund services of the Mobile Urgent Treatment Team (MUTT), a multi-county partnership to continue to address issues including intensive care coordination and targeted crisis intervention services; purchase of emergency respite care and short term crisis residential treatment bed days; and family supports including transportation costs.

This program is a more stabilizing and supportive approach verses out-of-home placement; which has a significantly higher cost; a cost measured not only in currency, but the emotional and developmental toll caused by the disruption of a youth’s connection with their family and the community.

Since inception the program has served 143 (99 from Licking County / 44 From Knox County and 119 of those served are new to the system.

Participants in the collaborative include: The Licking County Board of Developmental Disabilities (LCBDD), Mental Health and Recovery for Licking and Knox Counties (MHR), Behavioral Heathcare Partners of Central Ohio (BHP), Pathways of Central Ohio, and the Village Network.
