Welcome back to the 2023-2024 school year! I am looking forward to another great year of music making at Newton Elementary.
We will be having in person concerts this year. There is a preliminary concert schedule. Please see below for your child’s concert date. We will be having at least one concert/experience this year for each grade level. Please check my website for updates. http://www.northfork.k12.oh.us/AmyStoner.aspx. All concerts will be held at Newton Elementary. All concerts will be held in the Newton gymnasium. I will continue uploading various activities and videos of the classes this year. So, please keep checking in to the website for new content. For calendar updates, homework or musical links and games that we are using in class please check my school website http://www.northfork.k12.oh.us/AmyStoner.aspx. I will keep this up to date. 4th Grade will be playing recorders this year. Recorders are provided, but your child is welcome to bring their own.
5th Grade will be playing recorders and ukuleles this year. Recorders and ukuleles are provided, but your child is welcome to bring their own.
Concert Dates: All concerts will be held at 2:20 in the Newton Gym
4th & 5th Grade Veteran’s Day Concert: November 10th
2nd & 3rd Grade: December 8th
Kindergarten & 1st Grade: March 15th
Instrument Time!!!!
5th Grades will continue to earn Recorder belts. This will continue the remainder of the year. Soon, 4th grade will begin to learn and earn belts for recorders.
5th grades will begin to learn ukulele skills and earn belts for their accomplishments.
I have enough recorders and ukuleles for everyone. However, If you would like to purchase either for your student, I suggest going to a music store or to go on Amazon. Use the star system. 4-5 stars rating are good for us. Please do not purchase from a discount store. Often, they are in the wrong key or do not sound as good.

Quaver Music
Quaver Music is our music curriculum this year. The amazing thing about this program is that it is constantly updated and students can interact with the material, not only at school, but also at home. The site is completely safe and free to you and your child. If your child does not have access to a computer or internet on a continual basis… don’t worry. I would, however like to know so that if I make an assignment, I can make allowances for that. I will be happy to send home paper copies of what will need to be done. Also, many of the songs for this year are on the site so they can practice at home.
Students in grades 3-5 have a username and password. If you would like to know their information, please e-mail me.
There may be times that your child will have homework on Quaver. They will be given adequate time in class to complete the work, however they may want to work on it at home as well.
